Overview on Blog Assignments

Image
When first being assigned to write blogs every other week I thought it would be an interesting assignment because it's not an assignment where you needed to research or look for the correct answers. It was mostly based on our own experience and thoughts that we had on the topic we were answering. This kind of gave me a break of the actual book stuff we had to do for other assignment in this class and rather looking deeper of how I felt during this time when answering the topic of discussion.  When starting theses blog assignments, I thought some of them were hard to answer, but once I thought deeper about the topic of the blog, I was able to think carefully of what I wanted to say along with important details I wanted to express. This gives me a better understanding on how to elaborate my inside thoughts into words in the blog. I think I would have enjoyed more of these blogs if there were more options of the questions we can answer. Topics like "Who is the person you look up

Course objective

Image
For this blog post I want to talk about time management in the course objective. I think that this objective is an important life skill whether it's in school, at work, or even in your everyday life. It's about making sure that you are planning ahead to get the assignments done on time. This will put you in a good habit of self-discipline as well as good organizational skills. I think that my time management skills have gotten a lot better over this semester. I know that it's become a habit that at the beginning of the week I make sure to take some time and go over all the assignments that are due for this week and sometimes even the following week to make sure I have enough time to complete these assignments. I know there are times where I push an assignment to do last minute, just simply because I didn't feel like doing them. That is something that I will need to work on.

First Accounting Club Meeting

Image
When attending my first accounting club meeting, there were a couple of guest speaker that came from Minneapolis to talk about what they do as a public accountant. I was excited to hear about their hands on experience and seeing where they started and where they are now.  As the meeting started, we had a list of questions for each speaker to answer one by one. I like how I was able to see how each of them had a similar yet different background from starting college to starting their careers after graduating. They talked about programs that helped them study for the CPA (Certified Public Accountants) exam and how they had different study habits based on their schedules. They also mentioned that most employers will help with the cost of covering the programs to take your CPA exam as they can be very expensive.  Also, in the way they spoke, it was reassuring that the feeling of being lost right now was okay and that we will soon, in our own pace, would figure out what exactly we would wan

Self-Care Routine

Image
My self-care routine consists of many different things that all comes together to make me feel better. I love sharing my routine as well as listening about other people's self-care routine. Everyone has a different way of doing their self-care routine and by sharing them you can help others find that self-care.  One big thing for my self-care routine is keeping my room clean. My room is my personal space that I'm mostly in for a big chunk of the day. I play video games, read my books, study and do homework in my room, that if it's messy I can't wind down or focus on my studies. Of course, I'm just like any other person that eventually my room will be messy from time to time, but picking up my room or making my bed goes a long way for my mental health. It helps me be much more productive and make my mind more at ease. My second big self-care routine is making a list of assignments to work on or materials I need to study for the week. This helps me keep track of what

Sitting still

Doing this "sitting still" activity was a lot more different and difficult than I thought. I noticed at first, it was hard to focus on my breathing as well as keeping my thoughts clear. I constantly kept thinking of schoolwork and other life obstacles that was been eating away at me. It took me a few times until I was able to only think about my breathing. Once I focused on only my breathing, I was slowly able to pay attention to my surroundings. I noticed the warmth on my leg was slightly warmer than the rest of my body, as the sunlight was coming in from the window. I never noticed it before, but I can feel my chest and shoulders rising and falling as I was breathing. I noticed the smell of the fruity air freshener that was plugged into my living room. It smelled stronger the more I focused on it. I then notice how I can hear the busy street coming from my window. The cars using their breaks, the cars accelerating, and the people's conversation as they walk pass my win

Online Classes

Image
Starting college, I never thought I would be taking online courses. Before covid, I always had an image in my head of attending all of my classes in person and that online classes were just for people who had families and/or had a full-time job. I think the past me hated online classes as I didn't know how to manage my time with assignments and studying. It was until my second year of college, that I started learning how to balance my online classes. My first year of college I was attending Winona State University with all of my classes online, that I took from home because I didn't see the point in staying on campus if I was just going to be in my room most of the time. It was a hard first year as it was not what I expected college to be. I then transferred here, to NDSU, to get a fresh start in fall of 2021.  By that time, I was able to take in-person classes and 1 or 2 online classes. Disciplining myself to have a schedule was hard but definitely worth it. I made sure to hav

Introduction

Hello, my name is Hope Herr. I am a junior at North Dakota State University and my major is accounting. My first year of college I had no idea what I wanted to do in my life. I first went into nursing, then computer science. I'm not sure if Covid-19 ruined my experience with my classes for those majors but I felt like it didn't fit me. For a while, I was panicking as to what I should choose next as my major. I was scared that I wouldn't be able to find a career for me. I was making a list of subjects I like to do in school and math was always one of my favorites. That is how I came across accounting. To this day, I'm still not sure what exact job I am looking in the job market. My intermediate accounting professor has brought this up in class the other day and I am hoping that this semester I can find a few careers that I may be interested in.                                                                                      Some things that I am planning to do this
